Sports / Dancesport

Dancesport is one of the confirmed sports that will be held at the 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames.

Wellington Town Hall

The Town Hall is a large, multi-purpose traditional concert venue with a timber floor that is more than suitable for dance events. There is spectator table seating (8-10/table) along the side of the dance floor and general seating facing the dance floor. Gallery seating is also available if required.

Additional facilities

The town hall is a central city venue making it close to cafes and shops. It has adequate on-site parking.

The event will be officiated by registered dance adjudicators and other people experienced in running dancesport competitions.

You can register for Dancesport now, even if you do not know yet the specific dance events you will be competing in or whom your dance partner(s) will be.

After registering, you need to tell us those details no later than 28 February 2011 by completing a competitor's registration form. We'll ensure we contact you if you haven't sent us this information.

  • Each dance partnership requires a separate competitor's registration form.
  • Only one competitor's registration form is required for each dance partnership, but it must include both dance partners' details.
  • If you are entering Prelim events, you must submit a separate form for those events with just your details (not your partner's).

Plans for sanctioning event

There is no official governing body for same sex dancesport in New Zealand. The dance competition will be held along similar lines to those currently held in Australia and the local mainstream (heterosexual) dance competitions held in Wellington. All participants have to comply with the competition rules.

Partnerships to assist with competition

The event will be run in partnership with DANSS Inc who will have run three local dance competitions prior to the 2nd AsiaPacific OutGames. The event will be supported by local mainstream dance studios, including the provision of registered dance adjudicators and other people experienced in running dancesport competitions.
